Hello readers and writers of Oscar’s Salon,
Oscar’s Salon is one year old!
We began in December, 2012. It’s turned out an arduous undertaking yet, a most satisfying publishing experience. You, dear reader, are no small part of that. Your appreciative comments, provocative thoughts and engaging riffs connect it all. Inspire me. As does the vibrant presence of Guest Writers and Artists’ work.
Salons sprung out of the French literary, art and philosophical movements in the 17th and 18th. I like Wikipedia’s description. “A salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held…to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation.” Typically, the hosts were women of some means. In Oscar’s case, the Internet is ‘the under the roof.’ As then, the host is a woman. ¬Then, it was a woman of means; now it’s a woman of between. Connecting it all are your appreciative comments, provocative thoughts and creative riffs.
I’m frequently asked three questions. One is: “How many more Oscar sections are there? Currently, I’m writing Part 34 and suspect it will take another year or so to finish. “Has publishing Oscar of Between influenced what you’re writing now?” It does. In curious ways! I will speak to this soon in the monthly comments. And, “How long will Oscar’s Salon continue?” I am deciding everything about Oscar’s Salon as I go but your interest is crucial to how long! My guess is for another year and a bit. APPLAUSE? That’s me clapping for you, dear reader.
