Please note: This course is now full and has a waitlist.

I teach this course annually. With its mixed genres combined with a mix of Continuing Studies writers and The Writer’s Studio Program at S.F.U. writers, it is one of my most dynamic courses. It is appropriate for writers with a portion of a manuscript or a full draft.

In this course, you will learn how to develop your manuscript mind. You will be introduced to strategies for shifting from the smaller narrative units (poem, short fiction, chapters of nonfiction or fiction) to identifying the underlying structure and overall narrative through-line of your manuscript.

We’ll also investigate how to identify problems within your manuscript—what fits and does not fit in it? What new writing do you need to do? How do you know when you’re finished?

In addition, you will hear a successful first-time author talk about what he or she learned, including the process of assessing his or her manuscript as well as publishing and promoting it.
